Elex pushed back to Q3 2017

Did you hope to play Elex within a couple of months? Well, don't. The next action RPG from Piranha Bytes is not coming out until Q3 2017.

What’s the best way to deliver bad news? To hide them among good news, while emphizising the latter, of course. That’s pretty much what THQ Nordic did when they revealed their PAX East line-up. Among the games they are planning to show off in Boston is Elex, the upcoming science-fantasy action RPG from Piranha Bytes, the creators of the Gothic and Risen series. So far so good. Well, only until you look at the planned release date of Elex: Q3 2017. This is obviously a big delay from what we’ve been expecting up to now – early 2017. Nice try, Nordic.

On second thought, this may not be such bad news after all. The latest presentation of Elex (delivered by PC Gamer, see below) wasn’t received very enthusiastically by the fans. The animations looked stiff, the graphics clearly needed more care, and the overall gameplay looked like an early alpha build. Let’s hope that the team at Piranha Bytes will make good use of the time they have been given by the publisher.

This year’s PAX East runs through March 10-12. Other titles that THQ Nordic is going to present there are SpellForce 3, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, This is the Police (Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions), and Lock’s Quest. Speaking of SpellForce 3, the next installment in one of the few series that successfully combine RPG and RTS genres is also coming out in Q3 2017.
