THQ Nordic and Gearbox Owners to Acquire 20 More Studios

Embracer Group, the owner of studios such as THQ Nordic and Gearbox, plans to acquire more companies. As many as 20 new teams are in holding's sights.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Embracer Group intends to acquire another 20 studios;
  • The Swedish holding did not reveal which companies are involved;
  • The transaction will mark the further development of the company, which is already the largest of its kind in Europe.

Embracer Group is a Swedish holding company that owns as many as 68 studios organized into 8 operating groups. Among these larger entities we can find such famous names as Gearbox, THQ Nordic or Deep Silver. However, the company's appetite seems to be growing, as it has announced its intention to purchase 20 more studios.

Embracer Group has revealed that it has been planning such a move for quite some time, and has raised $914 million to do so. Talks regarding possible acquisitions have been held with over 150 companies. Currently, the holding has already moved to a more advanced stage. 20 studios have been selected and the final details of the purchase are being agreed upon with them. However, Embracer Group has confessed that it does not intend to forcefully accelerate the transactions. Thus, at the moment their finalization is not entirely certain.

Unfortunately, it is not known with which companies the Swedes are holding talks.. It was revealed, however, that some of them are large entities that are able to create smaller operating groups within the Embracer Group on their own, such as THQ Nordic or Deep Silver. This means another significant increase in the company's value, which surpassed Ubisoft back in February. It has thus become the most valuable company in the European game industry.
