If you are bored with over-the-top, Hollywood-like, action overflowed FPS titles that require you to shoot first, think later (or not think at all if possible) Ready or Not is a title for you. It focuses on more methodical approach and deliberate actions than simply going trigger happy whenever you see a movement. The game follows its own narrative, where you are commanding a SWAT Team. As this unit’s name corresponds to its real-life counterpart, there is however another organisation that does not exist – FISA. What is it? Here you will learn all you need to know as well as some fan-crafted theories. Buckle up.

Ready or Not background story

As of now, action in Ready or Not takes place in fictional city Los Suenos, which can be roughly translated to “City of Dreams” from Spanish. It’s located on the West Coast of USA near the Mexican border, where the criminal activity suddenly surged. To get the situation under control, the LSPD SWAT Team was dispatched.

During their missions throughout the city, they will have several encounters with FISA. While SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) is a real-world unit, FISA (Federal Investigation and Security Agency) is not. It is a fictional organisation created by the developers. In its roots, it is designed to resemble the FBI. Why wouldn’t the creators from the VOID Interactive studio just use the actual name instead? That’s a part of a bigger story.

FISA in Details in RoN

Be warned, as the following information contains spoilers!

As you will venture through Los Suenos, you will find some traces of FISA. During Greased Palms mission, you will be tasked with arresting one of FISA agents named Jack Adams. He is suspected of committing various crimes. This itself does not indicate anything by itself, though the plot thickens as you go.

Near the end of Hide and Seek operation in Port Hokan, you will stumble upon a shipping container, which doors will be marked by a white, spider-like mark. Inside, there are corpses of unknown origin. As soon as the doors are opened, you will be contacted by FISA Commander ordering to close the door immediately, leave it for FISA to handle and continue with your mission. This can definitely spark some ideas about this organisation.

There are also some minor traces in other operations. For example, while sweeping through Mindjot Data Centre, there will be notepads and whiteboards suggesting FISA link to human trafficking.

Information like that is scattered throughout the game. Many fans are suspecting that it will conclude in some bigger plot putting FISA in a bad light. This might be a reason why the developers would like to avoid connecting it with the real FBI.

There are people accusing Ready or Not of having no plot, yet others are defending it, stating that the story is unfolded by searching the environment and connecting the dots by yourself. It is not a game where everything will be explicitly explained, but it demands more input from the player to get information, like in the case of FISA.
