Thanks to a Q&A session with the developers of Fallout 76 on Reddit, we found out that in the near future, the game will probably introduce animal companions as well as new characters and tasks.
Fallout 76 update titled Wastelanders launched on April 14, this year. It includes NPCs and a lot of new content, thanks to which even solo players can have fun. According to Steam's users, the changes made the game better, but some issues remain. However, thanks to a Q&A session on Reddit, attended by the developers of Fallout 76 - Jeff Gardiner and Ferret Baudoin - we found out what else may be added to the game in the near future.

The devs revealed that because of the fact that the companion system has already been implemented into the game, they are now going to introduce animals accompanying the players. It is not yet known whether, like human companions, they will be available only in our camp, or whether they will go out into the wasteland with us. However, the latter option seems to be more likely.
We also learned that in the future new NPCs, as well as various stories and related tasks will be added to the game. It's quite possible that these will include the fate of Brotherhood of Steel, which now, according to Gardiner, "is watching West Virginia closely". Besides that, the devs also want to enable the players to choose the costumes of their companions and introduce a system to switch quickly between the previously prepared perk sets. A new, detailed roadmap for the entire year is to appear soon.
