Reveal of New LoL Skin Fell Flat; Riot Decided to Listen to Players

Along with the patch 11.23 League of Legends was supposed to receive another skin associated with the TV series Arcane - Firelight Ekko. The developers, however, decided to postpone the skin's release due to a number of shortcomings pointed out by the community.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The upcoming patch for League of Legends is expected to bring a new skin from Arcane - Firelight Ekko;
  2. Due to the poor reception from players, the developers decided to refine this epic skin.

The premiere of Netflix's TV series Arcane was accompanied by numerous events in League of Legends, the game on which the show is based. Many references to the TV series have been added to Riot Games' title, including character skins appearing in the story. LoL has already received new appearances for Vi, Jinx or even Jayce. Along with patch 11.23, the game was supposed to receive Firelight Ekko, the epic skin from Arcane. However, the announcement of the skin met with a rather cold reception; the design of the highly-anticipated Firelight Ekko simply didn't cut it in the eyes of fans. Especially that we have to pay 1350 Riot Points - in-game currency bought with real money - for it.

The less than favorable reception led to an announcement from one of the devs at Riot Games, who announced in a thread on Reddit that the new skin for Ekko would be coming to the game later than announced.

"Hey all, I wanted to say that we really appreciate the discussion around Firelight Ekko's lack of SFX. We completely agree that SFX are a standard and expected part of an Epic (1350) skin, and leaving them out was an unfortunate mistake on our part due to a miscommunication internally. While we do everything we can to avoid delaying content, we're going to hold off from shipping this skin for a few patches to work on adding new SFX. This also means the skin will come off of PBE for now."

The developer, posting under the handle RiotKatana, has also promised that the skin's animations will be refined and new visuals will be added in addition to sound effects. So far, the skin has been tested on PBE servers; due to the need to refine it, Firelight Ekko will no longer be available there. Despite the fact that the issue affects only a single skin, it shows that even in a seemingly trivial matter Riot is able to listen to community's voice.
