Gamescom 2022 Promises Little Without Sony and Other Giants

Sony executives have confirmed that the Japanese company will not be coming to Cologne this year for gamescom 2022. The European gaming fest, which is returning as a physical event form after the COVID-19 pandemic, has fewer and fewer big attendees.

After a two-year break gamescom returns in the traditional formula. Soon the fair halls in the center of Cologne will be visited by thousands of video game fans and industry media representatives. During this year's edition of the event, however, we will not see Sony's games. Games Wirtschaft reports that it received an official message from a Sony representative, who confirms the absence of the company at the fair (via GamesIndustry.biz).

The great absentees

The PlayStation Studios team has thus joined such "great absentees" of the event as Nintendo, Activision Blizzard and Take-Two. Reportedly, fans can expect the participation of other large companies, but the organizers have not yet announced who exactly it is about. At the moment we only know that Bandai Namco and Embracer Group have confirmed their participation (via Eurogamer).

Timetable

At the very end we remind you that the largest European game fair will take place from the 24th to the 28th of August.. However, the whole event will be initiated by the Gamescom Opening Night Live show on August 23. Those who do not decide to travel to Cologne, will be able to follow the broadcasts on the Internet.
