AI-generated materials definitely have their ups and downs – no question about it. Sometimes, the quality isn’t perfect, and the results can feel a bit generic. But when used right, it can save time and effort while still producing useful materials. That’s why Gamepressure is excited to bring you something new: a summary of Steam reviews created by AI.
AI at work. How we’re using it to summarize Steam reviews
In December 2024, we launched a new version of gamepressure.com. Today, we just wanted to give you a quick look at some of the most interesting features that came with the update. One big upgrade is the addition of OpenCritic ratings to our game database, making it easier to see how they are being reviewed across the media.
But what we are most excited about is Steam user reviews summary generated by AI. As we all know, player feedback can sometimes be very different from media scores – just look at the rating section of Starfield, or Star Wars Jedi Survivor. This gives you a look at how those opinions compare.
This system puts together short, helpful overview from players, like this for Dragon Age The Vailguard, that accurately show the game’s current state. It filters out review bombing and low-quality feedback to keep things accurate, focusing on English-language ones. The tricky part was removing useless opinions without losing the ones that actually matter.
The summary gets updated based on two factors: the game's release timing and its popularity. If it was released recently, updates can happen as often as daily during the first week. For more popular games, this continues to be refreshed even long after launch.
