Currently, the Football Manager series has no true competition. However, that wasn’t always the case. A long time ago, Electronic Arts had a rival franchise titled FIFA Manager. Sadly, its final installment was released in 2013. A group of fans decided they wouldn’t let the series be forgotten and for many years have been improving and updating FIFA Manager 14. The result of their efforts is a series of mods that serve as unofficial sequels.

The latest of these mods, titled FIFA Manager 2025, received its first major update just a few days ago.

  1. The patch introduced updated data for players, teams, stadium names, event calendars and broadcast revenues.
  2. A new competition format in the form of play-offs in Serbia has been added, as well as changes to the Norway and Greece cups.
  3. The technical side has also been improved, removing many bugs, including one that caused the game to hang on the latest graphics cards.
  4. Visual elements such as player pictures, crests, stadiums and cities have been updated
  5. New 3D stadiums have been added in Albania, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, England, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland and Uzbekistan.

The creators have been working on this project for years, producing a separate version of the mod for each season.

This mod series delivers what you might expect from official continuations: updated databases, improved graphics, and a ton of new gameplay features and tweaks. Among other things, it introduces new formations and tactics, the option to directly control the team during 3D matches, and significantly expands player data. Bug fixes and improved AI are also included.

The quality of these modifications is impressive. This is far more than just a simple database update. The progress in graphics and gameplay mechanics compared to the base FIFA Manager 14 is massive — best illustrated by the fact that the mod files weigh in at almost 70 GB. All in all, it genuinely comes close to what a modern installment of the series might look like today, had Electronic Arts not abandoned it over a decade ago.
