At that point I hit the wall because there are many 5-letter words, and I did not have any good candidate for the answer. However, at last, I managed to figure this out, and the answer is:

Knowing what the answer is, I agree that this hint fits it. Scone is traditional British and Irish baked food. It’s made of oatmeal or wheat flour and baking powder.
