Take 2 has Giant Expectations of GTA 6 Sales, Analyst Says

Grand Theft Auto VI will likely be the most expensive game in gamedev history. In order for the cost of its development to break even, equally huge profits from sales are expected.

Since the appearance of the first shy rumors about the creation of GTA VI it was known that the next installment of the series from Rockstar Games would be in almost every respect "the game": the best, the biggest, the most expensive. Particularly regarding the latter, we hardly have any doubts anymore.

According to recent rumors the cost of development of the sixth installemt may consume as much as $1-2 billion. The developers, of course, would not choose to allocate such funds to create a game if they were not sure that it would pay off.

So with what sales of GTA VI should we expect? Analyst Joost van Dreunen shed some light on Take-Two's expectations for the next installment of the gangster series. In his recent newsletter the industry expert noted that initial projections assume that Grand Theft Auto VI will initially distribute around 25 million copies.

"Assuming a release window of 2025, which is optimistic given the publisher's propensity for delays, early estimates predict that the new title will sell 25 million copies [during the launch period - ed. note]," the report said.

For a more detailed analysis of the title's sales, van Dreunen was contacted by the editors of TweakTown. It turns out that the above estimates are based on an expected 20 percent increase in the number of consoles sold between 2024 and 2025. This would mean that there will then be about 125 million PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on the market.

We should add that within the first week of its release, the revenue from sales of GTA VI should amount to about $1 billion. Although this is a huge sum, the previous installment of the series managed to achieve the same result in just three days.

As for the first 24 hours after its release, it is estimated that the game will find about 12-14 million buyers.. In comparison Grand Theft Auto V moved 11.21 million copies in the first 24 hours after its debut. In contrast, the game sold 32.5 million copies in the first quarter of its market presence.
