Just Cause 5 May be in the Pipeline

Summer Game Fest is coming, and one of the surprises of the event could be Just Cause 5. The publisher's financial report mentioned another game in the series is currently in production, and the studio that created the brand is working on an unannounced open-world game.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  1. Square Enix's financial report to investors mentions that a new Just Cause game is in development;
  2. There is a shadow of a chance that this is about the upcoming Just Cause: Mobile, but that's unlikely due to Avalanche Studios' ongoing work on an unannounced AAA open-world game.

Square Enix sold several of its western studios last month, including the authors of Deus Ex and Tomb Raider, but it couldn't sell Avalanche because it doesn't belong to them. The Japanese, however, own the rights to the Just Cause brand, for which, as it turns out, they have big plans.

In a summary of fiscal year 2022, which Square Enix prepared for its investors, contains information that Just Cause will remain the intellectual property of the Japanese company. What is more, there is also a mention that the next game in the Just Cause series is currently in active production. That's all we know from the official sources for now.

It is not entirely clear whether this is information about a completely new title - probably Just Cause 5 - or is it about the upcoming smartphone and tablet game Just Cause: Mobile, which, technically speaking, is indeed currently in development (originally the game was supposed to come out in 2021, but the release was delayed to 2022). The existence of a mobile spin-off is no secret, however, so it should appear under its full name in the documents. Therefore, it is safe to assume that it is probably the full-fledged sequel to the series.

Besides, the creators of Just Cause at Avalanche Studios, posted a job advertisement on their website, in which they are looking for a senior producer for a yet-to-be-announced open-world AAA game, which will use the latest technology. And everything begins to fit together... Especially it will soon be four years since the release of Just Cause 4.

It's possible that we'll hear the first announcement this Thursday, June 9, during the Summer Game Fest (the event starts at 10 am PT and will be broadcasted live on Twitch and YouTube) or during another of the many shows scheduled in the coming weeks.
