Paradox is known for many intricate games often described as grand strategies. They not only create them in their own development studio, but also publish a lot of promising titles. One of such productions, that is awaited by many, is Millennia – a 4X, turn-based strategy that is developed by C Prompt Games. It focuses on leading a civilisation throughout the titular millennia uncovering many possible paths for it. Driving a society is not a task for a single human being, as many cultures throughout the history proved. Let’s see how Millennia tackles multiplayer and coop functionality.

Multiplayer and coop option in Millennia

Everything is better with friends. Leading and destroying civilisations, too. A net of diplomatic relations between countries is of vital importance, and in videogames it often comes in the form of multiplayer and coop. Worry not, as Millennia will allow for intermingling with other players.

The title will provide access to multiplayer functions in two ways at launch. The first one is quite simple, called Local Hotseat, allowing for taking turns between people using the same computer. This is a very classical, but great feature to have. It’s also worth noting that this option should work with Steam’s Remote Play feature.

However, if your friends live a bit farther from you, it will be possible to use Cloud Hotseat option. It works in a very simple way connecting Local Hotseat with save exchange like functionality. After one player takes a turn, the save game will be available to load for another participant and take their turn. Then the roles change, and the first person will be able to load such save. It will be possible to play many concurrent Cloud Hotseats games at once.

The last option, called “Simultaneous” by the developers, will not be available on launch, yet it’s something that they are working on. It will be the most classic implementation of multiplayer which will allow for playing together with others without save exchange. It is worth mentioning that in this game-mode turns will be taken concurrently by all players. Currently, there is no information about when this functionality will be available.

There are no concrete words on coop, yet it would be logical to set the affinities between players at the beginning or forge alliances and declare wars in the game itself. Remember that no conflict is eternal nor is a coalition. Make the most out of your current position. Good luck!
