WARNING: THE TEXT CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE GAME BALDUR'S GATE 3

The latest update to Baldur's Gate 3 caused a slight crisis among the fans of Minthara, leaving a mark on the relationship of the paladin with the Durge. The flourishing romance was coming to an end due to a decision made after the changes, which theoretically aligned with the drow's philosophy but in practice only brought her disappointment.

Players went to great lengths, debating the questionable decision made by Larian Studios and creating mods to revert the companion to her previous state. Devs interrupt this chaos, openly declaring that the whole situation results from a bug.

"But it suits her character!"

During the gameplay as the Durge, we learn that the protagonist tormented by compulsive thoughts is actually a spawn of Bhaal, the god of murder. We have the option to either succumb to the deadly desire or to forsake the bloody path, thereby defying the will of the "father."

Since the last update, most of the community felt that the second option wasn't in line with Minthara's character and led to her breaking up with the main character. Minthara is a character who doesn't identify with any deity and should respect her beloved's similar decision.

It quickly turned out that the companion's behavior was actually an overlooked bug. The dialogue fixes have brought back old issues where Minthara ended her relationship with the Durge by abandoning Bhaal. As the title of the entry quoted above says, the dark elf regenerated her brain cells.

The players are dancing the waltz

What more can be said, BG3 fans are celebrating the restoration of Minthara. The hotfix not only fixes the romance issue but also the mention of Gale in the third act in every initiated conversation.

At this point, Minthara is one of the most glitched companions, with Bhaal and Gale being just a few of the problematic issues for her. In the game, there is still a bug forcing the paladin to mention the Emperor even if the player hasn't yet had a chance to discover his true form. Still, for now, fans want to enjoy this one fix.

The universal truth regarding Minthara's bugs is that they're always when they occur but hilarious in retrospect. Like the girl got bored and just started spoiling shit and wouldn't shut up about the wizard exploding himself, then got hungry and threatened to dump you.

This whole matter sparked interesting discussions on the forum about what Minthara's personality is really like. Some people defended the corrupted version of the dialogue, claiming that the drow would do anything for power. Players don't refrain from criticizing these people.

Anyone that supported the change last patch hasn't spoke to Minthara once in game. She HATES being under the control of any God or higher power, instantly disapproves when you tell her that as a durge you enjoy mindless killing and violence, which is everything Bhaal represents.

-- Vakarlan

Minthara does like power, but she also likes autonomy and self-determination. It's why she also doesn't break up with Durge if they choose to become Bhaal's chosen, because it means she gets to be queen-consort of the world Durge makes. For a while, at least.

And to everyone who said Minthara breaking up with a durge was in character for her despite her constant prioritisation of freeing yourself from abusive gods... better luck next time.

Do you agree with the above comments? Would you have preferred the pre-revision version of Minthara, which indeed would have prioritized power over freedom? We are sure that there will also be mods for this.
