New military shooter is set in a big open world where the match never ends. However, the trailer reveals a serious issue
PlanetSide 2 veterans are working on a new online shooter with MMORPG elements.

We like it when developers of online shooters try unconventional solutions. Distinct Possibility studio has announced their debut project, called Reaper Actual.
The game breaks away from the traditional round-based structure of online FPS games. Players will have fun in a constant virtual world, being able to join and leave the competition whenever they want. Thus, on every server, an endless war will be waged.
Modern conflict and dynamic gameplay
The game's action will take place in modern times on the fictional island of Morova, torn by an armed conflict between five factions. These groups will be controlled by artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, players will take on the role of mercenaries (the titular Reapers), who will use this civil war for profit.
Players will get their own base on the island, from which they will then set out on an adventure into the open world to complete missions for or against a specific faction. This will be a PvPvE title, so it will allow for combat against both other players and soldiers controlled by artificial intelligence.
The whole thing is supposed to be very dynamic. For example: if we accept a mission in which our task will be to protect an NPC, the game will simultaneously generate a mission for other players to eliminate him. For this purpose, the creators will use generative AI.
- Based on the descriptions provided by the devs, it is supposed to create orders and clients' faces live.
- However, the models of the Reapers were made by scanning actors in costumes. Every mercenary will be a unique character and players will be able to collect and develop them.
Associations with the PlanetSide series come to mind
The idea of a game combining FPS and MMORPG, in a large open world, may evoke associations with the PlanetSide series. This isn't happening by accident. Matthew Higby and Tramell Ray Isaac are at the helm of Distinct Possibility. The first one was the creative director of PlanetSide 2, and the second one was the senior artistic director.
Reaper Actual is heading to PCs and will be available on Steam and Epic Games Store. At the moment, the devs aren't ready to announce the planned release date. Registrations for play tests have started (via GameStar).
All of this sounds quite promising. However, the fact that the trailer mentions the use of Etherlink caused concern. The blockchain infrastructure and the game will somehow use cryptocurrencies.
However, no details have been provided yet, so players are skeptical about monetization, especially since the production will use a free-to-play model. Investors have high hopes for the project, as they have supported the devs with a $30.5 million investment in the new funding round.
