New Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Trailer Reveals Bellibolt

In a series of “livestreams” hosted by the Electric-type Gym Leader, Iono, her partner Pokemon, the electric frog, Bellibolt, was revealed to be in the new Scarlet & Violet games.

In two new trailers released on the Official Pokemon YouTube Channel, the new Electric-type gym leader revealed her partner Pokemon, Bellibolt. Described as squishy and sluggish a few days ago by the gym leader Iono, Bellibolt appears to be a large and rotund frog-like Pokemon. The latest few trailers continue the trend of the Pokemon Company coming up with creative ways to reveal their new Pokemon.

The new gym leader, Iono, who runs the Electric gym in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, hosted a live stream in which she had viewers guess who her partner Pokemon was. She had a pink and blue Magnemite in her hair, so many viewers were quick to guess that perhaps there would be a regional form of Magnemite in these games. However, Iono quickly shot that idea down, saying they were nothing more than fancy hair pieces.

Fans were left to ponder for a few days until the reveal of Bellibolt, but there was no real way to guess as this Pokemon had never been seen before. The official Scarlet & Violet website gives more detailed information on Bellibolt, calling it the EleFrog Pokemon. The website also gives more detail on its brand-new ability: Electromorphosis. When hit with an attack, Bellibolt’s ability increases the damage dealt by the next electric-type attack.

Bellibolt also has a distinct look. It has two eyeball-like bumps on either side of its head, but the trailers made it very clear that the smaller dots on the front of its head are its actual eyes. This gives Bellibolt the unique look of having two faces. But overall, Bellibolt has a delightfully derpy look that fans will learn to love. It’s not unlike another derpy amphibian Pokemon, Quagsire.

It’s unknown if Bellibolt will evolve or if it evolves from something else. For more information, we might have to wait until Pokemon Scarlet & Violet releases for the Nintendo Switch on November 18th, 2022. Only a little more than a month to go.
