Path of Exile 2 Coming Out Probably in 2022

Players waiting for Path of Exile 2 need to be patient. The sequel to the famous hack'n'slash will probably launch in 2022.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Path of Exile 2 will not be released until 2022;
  2. The cause of the delay is the Covid-19 pandemic;
  3. The upcoming expansion for the first game, The Echoes of Atlas, will be the biggest expansion this year. After its launch, the developers want to focus on the sequel.

PC Gamer recently conducted an interview call with a developer from Grinding Gear Games, Chris Wilson. One of the topics of the interview was Path of Exile 2. It turns out that the sequel to the popular free hack'n'slash will most likely not debut until 2022. The reason is the problems caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I hate to blame COVID for stuff, but that is a big part of it at the moment. We have had difficulty hiring internationally because the borders to New Zealand are closed, so that has curtailed the exponential growth of our asset creation team a little bit. The progress of development hasn't been as fast as we wanted, and so our goal is to bash as hard as we can during 2021 on Path of Exile 2 stuff and see how much headway we make. Trying to get as much done as possible, and that'll give us a better idea of a good release date we can estimate, which should be towards the end of the year," said Wilson.

Waiting for PoE2 will certainly be made more pleasant by the upcoming expansion for the first game, titled The Echoes of Atlas, which will debut on January 15. In the expansion, we will find new locations and bosses that pick up on the sequel's aesthetics. Unfortunately, there is some bad news as well - it will probably be the biggest pack of new content that will go to PoE this year. After its launch, the developers plan to focus on the sequel. The first installment will still receive quarterly updates, but they will be smaller.

Path of Exile 2 was announced in November 2019, during ExileCon 2019, a party for fans of the series. It should be noted that PoE2 will not be a completely independent game, but rather a very extensive expansion to the first part, which will introduce numerous changes in gameplay mechanics and offer a different story campaign.
