After thunderous start, Path of Exile 2 has cooled down a bit, attaining nearly the same number of concurrent players as its predecessor, which has regained life thanks to Legacy of Phrecia update. Now, the time has come for the latest entry in PoE series to get a fresh content and reclaim its rightful place among the most popular games on Steam. The new version, introducing hundreds of changes and fixes, altering every aspect of the title, drew in hundreds of thousands of players to PoE2 servers again. It seems, though, that something went really wrong with Dawn of the Hunt. Let’s try to get more information about the issues and crashes that are pestering many fans.

Server issues and crashes in PoE2 Dawn of the Hunt explained

It’s probably common knowledge that both PoE and PoE2 are very complex games. Considering how many changes were made in Dawn of the Hunt, it shouldn’t be surprising that not everything went well. Of course, we would expect all those adjustments to be properly tested by QA Team, but we must remember that the production is in Early Access, so it’s still deep in the development process. It turns out that after the latest update, the number of server issues like crashes and disconnects has skyrocketed, though.

There are many posts on Steam Community Hub which indicate severe problems with Grinding Gear Games’ server infrastructure. And indeed, the creators themselves admit that the number of server side crashes is around 6 times higher than in the previous iteration of PoE2. This is bad, but also really good, news. Why?

Obviously, it’s bad because players will keep getting disconnected and there is nothing that can be done about it from our end. However, it’s also great because in this kind of problems the devs have an easy way of determining what’s happening and why those crashes occur. Due to that, they expect to have those challenges addressed in the upcoming days.

Keeping in mind that PoE is a huge game, we have to remember that it’s also taking toll on its creators, exposing them on excessive stress levels, that can lead to many mistakes during coding and that, in consequence, might lead to crashes and other issues. Let’s try to be more forgiving and supportive to receive one of the best ARPG games out there.
