According to an industry insider, Resident Evil 9 „at 95%” will be announced during Summer Game Fest 2025. This is indicated by increased activity behind the scenes.
It has been exactly four years since the release of the last installment of the Resident Evil series, which was not a remake. Rumors were already circulating around the ninth installment, but Capcom remains silent for now. However, there is a chance that we will soon receive an official announcement.
Dusk Golem, an insider specializing in the Japanese survival horror series, is "95% sure" that Resident Evil 9 will be revealed during the Summer Game Fest 2025. He's saying he can't guarantee it 100% because he wasn't informed directly. However, he claims that a lot is happening behind the scenes.
This is the first time behind the scenes there's a lot of buzz in the grapevine, lots of rumblings.
The informant noticed that there's been a lot more activity on the social media accounts for the Resident Evil series. He also mentioned a statement from Andi at Screenfire Germany, who he trust. Andi stated that Capcom plans to release the ninth installment in the first quarter of 2026, which suggests that the announcement may come soon (via ComicBook).
I'd say if you're tuning into Summer Game Fest on June 6th hoping that Resident Evil 9 will show up, there's an incredibly high chance you won't be disappointed. I'm getting into hype mode for it myself.
He also mentioned in a separate post that the remake of the fifth installment of the series is not currently in development, but there is a good chance it will be made in the future. He confirmed again, however, that Capcom is working on the remake of Code: Veronica. He believes that it will be released in 2028, but before that, in 2027, we will get a refreshed RE0.
It's not that the RE5 remake will never be made. At this moment it is not in the plans. In a way, I think that RE5 is now a bit like Code: Veronica used to be - it's more about "when", not "if." For example, the remake of Code: Veronica wasn't in production in 2020, but it entered the development phase at the end of 2022.
Of course, these are unconfirmed information, so take it with a grain of salt. We will find out if Dusk Golem is right on June 6th at 2:00 pm PT, when the Summer Game Fest 2025 will kick off.
