Scorn Plot and Ending Explained

Scorn does not tell its story directly. Instead, the game emphasizes our own interpretation of events. Here you will find one possible vision of the story.

Scorn met with extremely polarized reception. For some it is a very good title, while for others it is simply bad. However, one must admit that Ebb Software has managed to create an intriguing and ambiguous story. What is important, however, is that everyone will interpret the story in their own way. Below you will find our vision on the events.

The story in Scorn

Scorn is devoid of any story told directly. Instead, the developers have placed a series of clues in the game world that suggest what actually happened. The whole focus is on showing the endless cycle of life and death. All this against the backdrop of a dying civilization.

During the game, we traverse a biomechanical complex that most likely served for the mass reproduction of living beings. Currently, however, the facility appears to be only a shadow of its former self. We don't know, however, whether it was intentionally abandoned. Still, we will find capsules similar to the one from which our protagonist emerged.

It seems that a mysterious parasite may have contributed to the collapse of the civilization. Its presence, experience almost from the beginning, leaves its mark on the adventure. It is extremely aggressive and takes control of the infected individual. This fate befell the first protagonist of Scorn. So it is possible that the whole center was an attempt to fight the parasite and save the race from extinction.

Instead, the goal of the protagonist (or rather, the protagonists) seems to be to escape from this complex at all costs. The very interactions he makes during the game, on the other hand, may indicate that he is very aware of how the center functions.

Scorn's ending

The second protagonist heads to the tower, which is a place that may guarantee safety. During his journey, however, he is regularly "devoured" by a parasite. He will never reach his destination, because just before the portal, the mutated form of the first protagonist appears and kills the character we control.

Looking at the fact that the whole thing shows the cycle of life and death, and in the final stage of the game the environment is blotted out with elements referring to pregnancy, the most likely the whole thing is meant to be an allusion to problems with reproduction. At the very least, it could be a reference to the complications and eventual death of a baby during childbirth.
