Mountaintop is a small devteam working on a multiplayer tactical shooter that appears to be quite an original work. The developers have already organized several closed tests, thanks to which Insider-Gaming obtained some interesting details.

The game is allegedly called Spectre - although the title may eventually turn out to be different, as the developers have not yet revealed it officially. The shooter will feature three-person teams competing against each other. The matches will prove to be a very interesting experience due to the "Duality" mechanics. Here's the thing, the player's character is to appear, so to speak, in two forms: physical and spectral. While controlling the former, we will leave a marker in a selected place on the map in order to be reborn there as a "ghostly character" if necessary.

The gameplay in Spectre can be very challenging, as the player will have to use the strengths of not one, but actually two characters during the same match. The game is expected to offer eight characters, and each of them will receive unique skills.

The above information has not yet been officially confirmed. So far, the Mountaintop has released only two short videos preparing us for the announcement of the upcoming shooter. Neither of them showcased actual gameplay, but we do know that the visuals of Spectre will be very distinctive, even cartoonish. A teaser of several seconds was published on Twitter/X, and you can watch some footage with more concept arts below.

Veterans of online shooters are working on Spectre

The developers describe Spectre as "an exciting evolution of the genre that will turn gamers' heads." In their words:

"Our goal at Mountaintop is to create games where you can easily spend 10,000 hours and still feel like there's more to master."

The game is attracting interest because Mountaintop, studio founded in 2020 by Nate Mitchell (co-founder of Oculus), is staffed by people with extensive experience with shooters. The creators of Spectre are veterans from Riot Games, Blizzard Entertainment, Naughty Dog, Epic Games, Respawn Entertainment, Bungie or Raven Software.

Given the developers' experience, the upcoming game has a chance to become a popular game in the streaming or esports community. However, we will have to wait a little longer before we see the results achieved by the creators of Apex Legends, Overwatch, Valorant or the Battlefield and Halo series.

Spectre doesn't even have an approximate release date. We also do not know what platforms it will launch on - closed tests of the game are currently organized exclusively for PC owners. Whether the title will be distributed in free-to-play model or as a premium production is also a mystery.
