Helldivers 2 Community Excited About Player's Assault Mission Idea. Interestingly, Devs Had Similar Concept

One of the fans of the cooperative shooter Helldivers 2 came up with an interesting idea for a new type of mission. It turns out that the game's developers themselves had similar ideas.

1. On the Helldivers 2 subreddit, a user ThePengu, showcased an idea for a mission that, in essence, is the opposite of the Evacuate High-Value Assets task. Instead of defending various objectives, our task would be their elimination. For instance, players might need to infiltrate a robot base and take out the central computer, or reach the swarm's center, deploy a machine with a termicide substance, and protect it until it completes its task.
2. The concept appears interesting, but what's most intriguing is that it was commented on by the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt. He stated that the solutions proposed by the player are very similar to those that developers "played with" a few years ago when Helldivers 2 was still in the prototype phase.
3. For some reason, the devs ultimately decided not to include this type of mission in the game. Helldivers 2, like any online shooter, must constantly develop and receive new updates that will keep players' attention. Therefore, it's not excluded that in the future the developers will return to old ideas. One of the developers recently stated that Arrowhead studio attaches great importance to adding new elements. Some players believe that the team should focus on fixing bugs first, but developers know that without constant development, a game service like Helldivers 2 won't survive.

The title turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2024. Within a little over a month of its release, its sales exceeded 8 million copies. The game also achieves impressive activity results on Steam - yesterday at the hottest moment of the day, Helldivers 2 was played by 195,549 players simultaneously.
