Helldivers 2 Dominates Steam. Dragon's Dogma 2 Falls Short in Competition

After 2 months, Helldivers 2 remains the most purchased paid production on Steam, despite growing competition.

It's likely unnecessary to persuade anyone that Helldivers 2 has proven to be a massive success for Arrowhead Game Studios. However, it might be surprising that HD2 has consistently been the top-selling paid title (buy-to-play) on Steam since its release.

It's easy to miss this fact if you only look at Steam's current ratings. The second installment of Helldivers hardly ever drops out of the platform's top ten bestsellers, but on some days it is replaced by other titles. At the time of publishing this news, the game was outperformed by Fallout 4.

However, a glance at Steam's summaries (via SteamDB) leaves no doubt: since February 8, only once has Helldivers 2 not been the best-selling paid game of the week. Dragon's Dogma 2 knocked this game off its throne for a moment, but HD2 quickly returned to its rightful place. DD2 isn't even in the top ten in the latest ranking, just like another unexpected hit from the beginning of the year: Palworld (via X).

It's worth recalling the words of Matt Piscatelli from the NPD group. More than a month ago, an analyst was amazed that sales of Helldivers 2 in the US were increasing even three weeks after its premiere. Usually, the game performs best in the first week after its release, and then sales drop.

This was indeed the situation in the case of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Palworld, and it should be added that both of these titles are still performing very well. It's simply hard to compare them with the phenomenon of Helldivers 2.
