Studio Thunkd, founded by Andrew Crawshaw, the main designer of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, revealed its first project. It turned out to be the game titled The Magnificent Trufflepigs, described by the devs as "a first-person romantic title about metal detecting".
The project is being developed for PC and Nintendo Switch. We won't have to wait long for the release, because the game is supposed to debut in early summer, this year.
In The Magnificent Trufflepigs we play as a man named Adam, who after years of absence returns to a small English village called Stanning, where he grew up. He meets a woman named Beth, who engages him to search a local farm for a missing earring from a valuable set. The heroes have to hurry up because the farm area will soon be covered with solar panels.
We'll observe the events from first-person perspective. During the game, we have to explore the farm and use a metal detector to look for hidden treasures. The ultimate goal will be to find the earring, but we'll discover many other items along the way. Most of them are supposed to be underground, so we will also spend a lot of time digging holes.
Actually, though, all this treasure hunting fun will just be an excuse to tell an interesting story. Adam is to be in constant contact with Beth via walkie-talkie and text messages. We will slowly uncover the history of the relationship between these characters and shape its next stage. The story will be largely non-linear, and it's how we navigate the conversations that will determine how the story unfolds.
Dialogues will be a key element of the project, so the devs did not risk and hired professionals for both roles. Adam will be voiced by Arthur Darvil, known from such series as Doctor Who, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Broadchurch. Beth, in turn, will be played by Luci Fish (Safe House, among others).
