Treeless Velen is a Sight to Behold

Velen from The Witcher 3, only without trees, looks better than one might think. Check out the atmospheric video.

That the landscapes in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can delight is an established fact. The Complete Edition has refined the visual aspect even further, so it's no surprise that players are eager to share screenshots showing the beautiful views. One fan went a step further and presented on video a special edition of Velen - namely, devoid of trees. The end result is surprising and enables us to appreciate the beauty of this land even more.

Treeless Velen

The creator, known as Nemanja, presented a very atmospheric video, showing Velen, from which all the trees have been cut, literally and figuratively. Originally, the land is heavily forested in some places, so one might assume that such a procedure would deprive it of its charm, but nothing could be further from the truth. As a result, one can appreciate the beauty of the local mountains and buildings. The whole thing is complemented by great camera work and atmospheric music from the game.

Commentators do not spare words of praise. One of them even compared his work to a BBC Earth documentary.

"This is amazing. Shots like from a BBC Earth documentary. My jaw dropped to the floor."

"Magnificent! This is how I imagined the world when I read the Witcher books."

Nemanja has also made other similar videos, depicting game worlds in atmospheric shots. If you enjoyed Velen, I recommend you also watch his videos on Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2.

Witcher without trees DIY

Tree removal in The Witcher 3 is nothing new. Back in 2019, a modification called "No trees and (or) grass - beautiful views - big fps boost" was published on Nexus Mods, which, as the name implies, enables you to get rid of some of the vegetation, thus providing more fps. I had to use the word "modification" to explain the concept, but in fact it is an instruction, explaining how to get rid of vegetation. If you want to experiment, the link can be found here.
