The Witcher 4 With Ciri and the Cat and Lynx School Dispute - Fans Speculate

Yesterday, CD Projekt RED announced that they are working on the next installment of The Witcher. We decided to take a look at the reactions of players to this announcement.

Speculations about the main character - Ciri or a new Witcher?

Yesterday the devs released few details. We only know that the game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 and one simple image was shown. Fans rushed to analyze it in search of clues regarding the next part of the series.

1. According to the announcement, the game is supposed to start a "new saga", so many people are expecting a different main character than Geralt.
2. The released image shows a Witcher amulet lying in the snow. Some players believe that it resembles a cat's head.
3. The medallion of the School of the Cat was worn by Ciri in The Witcher 3 (she got it by killing the bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, who took it from one of his victims), so some people thought she could be the main protagonist of the game.
4. Other players on Reddit, among other places, disagree with these conclusions, however, pointing out that the appearance of the medallion in the snow differs from that of the Cat School in Wild Hunt.
5. CD Projekt RED may have changed the design of the item, but it might as well be a completely new School - e.g. Lynx, as the head of this animal resembles the medallion lying in the snow the most.
6. It also cannot be ruled out that the devs will create a new character or provide a character editor.

The medallion (on the right) from the first graphic of the new game seems to resemble a lynx more than a cat (on the left - Ciri's medallion from The Witcher 3).

In any case, CD Projekt RED can be pleased that the simple graphic has encouraged so much discussion and speculation among players.

Recall that initially the first part of The Witcher was to enable players to create their own characters. Only then was it decided to have Geralt as the main character. So it is possible that CD Projekt RED will want to return to this idea in the fourth installment of the series.

At the end, it's worth mentioning that the studio has recently reorganized its structure so that it can work on two AAA projects in parallel. The announcement of the new The Witcher does not mean that the development of Cyberpunk 2077 will halt.
