The Witcher Season 2 Is Deep Into Post-production

The showrunner of Netflix's The Witcher confirmed that season 2 is already in „deep” post-production. The show is set to hit screens later in 2021.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Showrunner of The Witcher, Lauren Hissrich, announced that season 2 is already in "deep" post-production;
  • Work on set officially wrapped in April 2021;
  • The Witcher season 2 will debut later this year, but the exact premiere date remains unknown.

Lauren Hissrich, showrunner of Netflix's The Witcher, tweeted that the second season is already "deep" into post-production. In practice, this means that work on editing, sound and special effects is in full swing, so we will probably soon receive the news that The Witcher season 2 is ready and waiting for premiere. The premiere is scheduled for this year, but no exact date has yet been announced.

In her tweet, Hissrich displays her excitement caused by working on the final touches to the second season of The Witcher. Let's hope that her euphoria is related to the impatience to show the fans the effects of the work of more than 1,200 people who spent 158 days on the set which must have been an extremely demanding challenge during the pandemic.

The show was released on Netflix in December 2019 and immediately won the hearts of viewers around the world (although it fell a bit short of ideal). On the one hand, filling a fantasy niche (somewhat desolate after the end of Game of Thrones, on the other hand, starting from a very comfortable position, thanks to a strong brand, which is undoubtedly the merit of Andrzej Sapkowski and CD Projekt's games (it's better not to discuss who contributed more though), it appealed to the majority of viewers, receiving an average score of 7.6 out of 10 among users of Metacritic. This success enabled the showrunner to let her imagination run wild a bit further than she had originally planned. The second season of the series will continue the story, still based on the volumes of Witcher stories and the first part of the novel series (perhaps also on the subsequent novels about Geralt, as the showrunner enigmatically mentions in the video below). Work on the set officially wrapped up in April this year.

Everything seems to indicate that The Witcher Season 2 will be released on Netflix in 2021. Discussions about the premiere date usually mention December - after all, it was the month of the debut of the first season. Of course, these are just speculations, which will be verified when the official premiere date is announced.
