TimeSplitters Will Return - Deep Silver Resurrects Free Radical Design

Deep Silver has announced the resurrection of Free Radical Design. Its core will be comprised of the most important people from the old team, including its original founders. Together they will prepare the next installment of the TimeSplitters series.

IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Deep Silver decided to resurrect Free Radical Design studio;
  2. The team, whose core is formed by Steve Ellis and David Doak, the founders of the original team, will work on the next installment of TimeSplitters;
  3. Unfortunately, the details about the upcoming game are unknown so far.

Do you still remember TimeSplitters? It was a series of original first-person shooters, in which one of the main themes was time travel. British studio Free Radical Design was responsible for creating the games. Unfortunately, first, in 2009, it was renamed to Crytek UK Limited, and five years later, due to the financial troubles of its parent company, Crytek, it, de facto, ceased to exist.

Thus, it might seem that with the "death" of the team, the history of the TimeSplitters series ended definitively in 2005 after the premiere of third installment. However, as the well-known saying goes - never say never. Indeed, Deep Silver, the company which in 2018 took over the rights to the brand, decided to resurrect Free Radical Design. Its members will be working on a new TimeSplitters game. Will it be a "dusted off" project of the would-be fourth installment, on which work continued at the beginning of the past decade, or something completely new? We don't know that yet.

TimeSplitters will return.

Okay, but what is the certainty that the new installment of TimeSplitters will be faithful to the ideals of the original? This will be taken care of by the core of the old Free Radical Design team, headed by its original founders - Steve Ellis and David Doak, who are part of the reborn studio. In the coming months, it will be supplemented with "young blood".

Representatives of both Deep Silver and the resurrected Free Radical Design do not hide their satisfaction with the established cooperation. Quoting the words of Paul Nicholls, marketing specialist at the former company:

"It’s this unique style that earned the TimeSplitters series a large and passionate following who will, without doubt, be excited by the formation of Deep Silver’s latest studio and will look forward to learning more as the franchise moves forward.”

And here's what Steve Ellis had to say:

“To finally be able to confirm that the studio has been formed and that we have a plan for the next TimeSplitters game is incredible. While we cannot tell you anything more at the moment, we look forward to sharing information in the future.”

Let's hope that the new installment of TimeSplitters will meet the expectations of fans and will turn out to be a solid production. Let's also keep our fingers crossed that it will be announced as soon as possible.
