According to reliable sources, Ubisoft is working on a battle royale inspired by Apex Legends.
All signs point to Ubisoft developing a new battle royale, currently known as Scout.
One reason for continuing development on the game is that Apex Legends' popularity has recently begun to wane, and Ubisoft hopes Scout can capitalize on this.
Ubisoft has a terrible history with battle royale games. Hyper Scape servers were shut down less than two years after the release, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Frontline was canceled during testing. The publisher decided that third time's the charm and made another attempt.
Apex Legends has certainly been on the decline lately - on Steam, the game has lost 50% of its players in the last year, but it's uncertain if Ubisoft can take advantage of this. Despite some issues, Apex Legends is still a force to be reckoned with. EA is working on a major refresh of the game, which the company's CEO describes as "Apex 2.0."
