As announced, we saw The Thaumaturge - an isometric RPG from Fool's Theory, known until now under the codename Vitriol. On Steam and GOG As well as onEpic Games Store cards for this products have appeared. A short, atmospheric CGI trailer has also been unveiled - you can watch it below.
Taumaturgists and Salutors
To date, we knew very little about The Thaumaturge, mainly that the action is to take place in the early 20th century in Warsaw under the control of the Russian empire. Now, thanks to the game's official description, we can learn more about its plot outline. As we read:
"In this world, a force that cannot be ignored are the Taumaturgists. People familiar with the taming of esoteric beings called Salutors, which they then use to manipulate the moods and intentions of other people, but also to fight. The devil is in the details, after all, only Taumaturgists are fully aware of the nature of Salutors and only they can perceive their true essence. The Salutors' ability to exert significant influence over others clearly enhances their masters' ability to change the world around them. However, Taumaturgy remains a power that should be used with caution."
The discussed power of Taumaturgy can be seen in the trailer, where a cloaked figure begins to control a dark Salutor. Although the actual game is not presented in the video, the first screenshots show it. One of them shows the Salutor from the trailer, its attacks and stats.
Another screenshot is a shot of the battle that in The Thaumaturge will be played out in turns. The player will apparently have a choice of several attacks displayed as cards above the character's head.
An important element of the game will also be "ambiguous moral choices", influencing and manipulating the temperaments of other characters. The Thaumaturge will also feature investigation mechanics.
