Windows 11 Will Introduce New Version of Iconic App

Windows 11 introduces many changes, including a refreshed version of the built-in graphics editing program. The well-known MS Paint will get a new look and several improvements.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • MS Paint will still be present in Windows 11, although in a slightly refreshed form;
  • Participants in the developer channel of the Windows Insider program can noe get acquainted with the new Paint.

Windows has had a built-in program for creating and editing raster graphics since its first releases. Although the app is too limited for professional use, many people mention drawing flowers in Painter as their first computer experience. With subsequent incarnations of the operating system, the program underwent minor changes. The same will be the case with Windows 11 - MS Paint will be refreshed, which can already be seen by the participants of the Insider program.

However, we must admit - this is not a revolution, and Adobe does not have to pack their bags. Paint has not gained, for example, support for layers or even gradient fills. The changes are cosmetic and relate to the appearance of the window, now adapted to the roundness of Windows 11, as well as the toolbar. The color palette now has round icons, the brush menu has the form of a list and contains descriptions. The text tool is new and more intuitive.

Perhaps one more novelty worth mentioning is the support for dark mode, although at the current stage of work this feature does not work in the app. The "new" MS Paint is available on the developer channel of the Insider program, so it's doubtful that the final version will make it in time for the Windows 11 release, but as soon as it's ready, it will appear in the Microsoft store as a free update to the existing app.
