Cheaper Game Pass With Ads? That's What Survey Suggests

There are many indications that Microsoft, following in the footsteps of Disney and Netflix, is working on a cheaper version of Xbox Game Pass. The subscription would come with some drawbacks, unfortunately.

Microsoft is most likely preparing ground for the introduction of a cheaper version of Xbox Game Pass. At least, that's what a survey (image below) compiled by the Redmond giant and shared by a user on ResetEra suggests. Its purpose was reportedly to gauge gamer opinion on a cheaper version of Xbox Game Pass (via VGC).

The survey, sent to selected Xbox users (most likely from Spain), shows that the new, lower package would cost 2.99 euro per month. This is certainly an encouraging price, as the current basic package available on consoles is around 5 euro.

Interestingly, the survey reveals that the subscription would include online gameplay, without the required Xbox Live Gold, which currently costs 4 euro. However, the situation no longer looks so good if we take into account the limitations of the planned subscription - and there will be.

It turns out that the biggest drawback of Xbox Game Pass Lite (conventional name) would be the lack of access to debuting games for the first six months. Only after that time would subscribers be given the opportunity to play these titles. In addition, there would also be no access to the EA Access catalog. In addition, before starting to play, players would have to watch a commercial. Recall that Microsoft recently patented the technology for displaying ads directly in games so it is possible that the feature would be introduced right into Game Pass Lite.

If Microsoft is indeed preparing to introduce the above subscription variant, this option may prove very tempting for users who do not like to pay much, and who care mainly about online gameplay. Even a six-month wait for access to new titles could be a relatively low price to pay in this situation.

At the time of writing this news, Microsoft has not made an official announcement on the matter.
