Take-Two Sales Results; Remastering Mafia Paid Off

Take-Two Interactive informed that the games from the Mafia Trilogy set found 2 million buyers. We also learned about the sales results of GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Outer Worlds and NBA 2K21, among others.

SALES OF TAKE-TWO GAMES:
  • Mafia Trilogy: 2 million copies,
  • NBA 2K21: 5 million copies,
  • The Outer Worlds: 3 million,
  • PGA TOUR 2K21: 1 million,
  • GTA 5 : 135 million,
  • RDR2: 34 million.

Take-Two Interactive published its latest financial report. From the information quoted there, we are most interested in data concerning individual games. The publisher informed that it sold over 2 million copies of the games comprising Mafia Trilogy, i.e. a set containing Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II: Definitive Editio and Mafia III: Definitive Edition. Each of them can be bought separately, so it's a pity that it doesn't tell us how each of the titles from this collection sold individually.

It was also announced that the sales of Grand Theft Auto V exceeded 135 million copies and Red Dead Redemption 2 exceeded 34 million. RPG The Outer Worlds has already found 3 million buyers. The latter is interesting, because the game is also available in Xbox Game Pass. In this case, publishers usually talk about the number of players. The fact that this is not the case here suggests that these 3 million were actually sold, and not the copies downloaded as part of the subscription.

The successes of PGA TOUR 2K21 (one million copies sold) and WWE 2K Battlegrounds were also mentioned. For the latter, no specific figures are given, merely stating that it is performing better than expected.

Above all, however, the last few months in Take-Two Interactive belonged to NBA 2K21. The game debuted on September 4 this year and has so far found over 5 million buyers. It also earns very well on microtransactions. The publisher also boasted that the previous installment, i.e. NBA 2K20, is still doing very well.

The success of all these games contributed to a quite successful quarter for the company. Between July 1 and September 30, Take-Two Interactive generated USD 841.1 million in revenue, 2% less than in the same three months of 2019.

Interestingly, microtransactions and add-on sales recorded an increase of 56% and accounted for 59% of the publisher's revenue. After adding digital distribution of full versions of the games, as much as 85% of Take Two-Interactive's revenue has a digital source.
