Mafia III: Defitinive Edition is a remaster of the third installment of the action adventure game series created in 2002. The game has been released independently and as part of the Mafia Trilogy package by 2K Games. The game was developed by Hangar 13 studio, the creators of the original Mafia III and refreshed versions of the two previous parts of the series.
Plot
The plot of Mafia III remained unchanged in the Definitive Edition and introduces a new hero and the place of action in relation to the previous parts. As in Mafia II, the main character returns from military service, this time after the fighting in Vietnam. But unlike Vito Scaletta from the second part, it is not the desire for a better life that guides the protagonist. When Lincoln Clay returns to his hometown of New Bordeaux (based on New Orleans) in 1968, he has only one goal: to take revenge on those who led to the extermination of his loved ones. This includes in particular the person of Sal Marcano, a don of the influential Italian mafia responsible for the massacre.
Mechanics
In terms of gameplay Mafia III: Definitive Edition does not differ from the 2016 edition. This is a third-person action game in which we move around the big city and perform missions. The developers decided to expand the sandbox elements, which were part of the series from the beginning. This has resulted in a significant increase in the number of side activities and the possibility of taking over properties of hostile gangs. This last novelty is linked to the need to manage subordinates (called here lieutenants), who even rebel if we favour their rivals too much.
Third part of the series also expanded the main character's repertoire, both in terms of armament (we can find here guns, machine guns, grenades and much more) and available actions (finally, we can shoot while driving). Thus, the whole thing came closer to sandboxes in the style of the Grand Theft Auto cycle.
Technical and other aspects
As the newest of the Mafia: Trilogy games, Mafia III: Definitive Edition did not get much refreshment in terms of graphic design. The developers have slightly improved the graphics, but the whole thing does not differ much from the first version of the game from 2016. The main attraction of this edition is the possibility to download a digital content package for free. It includes three additional feature campaigns: Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times. Each of them presents a different Lincoln Clay adventure, and the anticipated attractions include a fight with the corrupt sheriff and a dark cult. In addition, the set included a DLC with new weapons and outfits.
It should be added that when you buy a game you get a unique outfit and a car in other Mafia: Trilogy games.
