Table of Contents

Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3

  1. Year of release: 2019 Resident Evil 2, 2020 Resident Evil 3
  2. Developer: Capcom
  3. Genre: TPP survival horror
  4. Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X & S, Xbox One, cloud
  5. In a nutshell: excellent, full-fledged remakes of two installments of the best-selling survival horror series

Let's start with the former. In Resident Evil 2 we have the opportunity to play the role of an inexperienced policeman, Leon S. Kenney, and Claire Redfield, who comes to Raccoon City to find her missing brother. Most of the plot takes place at the police station, where you have to face zombies. At some point, the fates of both heroes diverge, which encourages completing the title twice, watching the events from two different perspectives. It's worth doing this to immerse yourself in the dark atmosphere for longer -- tension and a sense of danger accompany the player almost throughout the entire game.

The third installment also takes place in Raccoon City, but this time the locations are more open. In Resident Evil 3, we control one heroine. Jill Valentine, who we are talking about, is a former officer of the elite S.T.A.R.S. unit. She goes to a city ravaged by a zombie apocalypse. The story presented in part 3 tells the events taking place before those in Resident Evil 2, which introduces the idea of playing the production in reverse order.

One of the reasons is the vibe. Moving slowly with a flashlight in your hand and a gun at the ready will put the nerves of many players to a severe test. Part two is indeed a horror, but not a banal one, based on jump scares, but rather building a heavy atmosphere through constant tension.

The third part is somewhat worse in this and other respects, but not because Capcom messed up in preparing its remake. The original Resident Evil 3 was not a top-notch game, at least compared to the excellent second installment or even better part four. From technical standpoint, the thorough revamp of both games turned out flawless. They were ported to a new graphics engine and enriched with elements not available in the originals. The titles presented are a great opportunity for new players to get to know the franchise, and for older ones to rediscover it.
