Scorn

  1. Developer: Ebb Software
  2. Release date: October 2022

Scorn is a very interesting proposition for horror fans. Landing in a completely alien, unknown universe bordering on dreams and reality is perhaps the most terrifying concept in this genre. Scorn is based on exactly this premise, making sure that the world we visit is scarier than even the worst nightmares.

In the game, we will move through several, connected areas. Each of them is significantly different from others, and at the same time follows a similar pattern, consisting of a tangle of corridors and rooms that form a complex labyrinth. To make progress on this macabre journey, we will have to defeat the monsters we meet and solve puzzles. Above all, however, we will have to focus on the surroundings: the entire plot is seamlessly woven into the gameplay and we will discover it as we go, with the fun not interrupted by any cut scenes. The purpose of this approach is to maximize immersion.

The detailed creation of the world makes it difficult not to flinch in fear or grimace in disgust. These feelings are evoked by the announcements themselves, so we can assume that the game will not spare us similar experiences. These impressions will be enhanced by the abstract nature of objects, weapons, and creatures, which will often move in bizarre ways. Ebb Software, a small studio that's developing this production, has made every effort to ensure that Scorn perfectly fits the definition of horror when it comes to visuals. Even the planned release month was adapted to this convention – Scorn is due to arrive in October. It will be released on PC and XSX.

The main inspiration for the authors was the oeuvre of H. R. Giger, responsible, among others, for inventing the xenomorph from Aliens. This influence was confirmed by them and is perfectly clear in the game itself. Careful players will also find other references – for example, to the work of David Cronenberg (the director of such films as Naked Lunch or The Fly). There are also references to the works of the surrealist painter Zdzislaw Beksinski. It's possible that we'll decipher even more of them after the game's released.
