Although the golden era of strategy is gone, it does not mean that the genre has completely died. 2021 proves that fans can still find at least a few productions worth attention.

7. Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail

  1. Developer: Game-Labs
  2. Platform: PC
  3. Game summary: a challenging real-time strategy set in 1775–1815

Fans of hardcore real-time strategies should check out Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail . This is another game by the Game-Labs studio, whose other titles include Ultimate General: Civil War and Naval Action. The former focused on land battles and the latter on naval battles. In Age of Sail, these two worlds collide and, as a result, players are given a completely new experience.

Ultimate Admiral allows you to take part in the battles between the United States and the British Empire that took place in the years 1775–1815. During these clashes, you'll have the opportunity to command a fleet of warships and affect the course of sea battles. Sometimes, however, the ships merely serve as a means of transport for your land forces, who join the fray shortly after they are dropped off onto the sandy shores.

Keep in mind that Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail is a strategy game geared towards hardcore fans of the genre. As a result, it can pose quite a challenge and requires mastering many complicated gameplay mechanics. The gameplay in this Game-Labs studio title can be extremely rewarding, however, as long as you're willing to take the time to learn how to properly control your fleet and infantry regiments.

The game's biggest pluses:

  1. it combines the strengths of previous Game-Labs productions;
  2. a high difficulty level, which makes overcoming the challenge incredibly satisfying;
  3. a multitude of mechanics and factors that affect how the army functions.
