Games You Have Probably Missed in the First Half of 2020

In Other Waters

  1. Genre: adventure
  2. Developer: Jump Over The Age
  3. Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch

What would it be like to play on the other side? Not the evil, the hostile, the filthy, but the machine the main character uses. As the interface of this machine. In In Other Waters, we play an artificial intelligence that helps a heroine specializing in astrobiology learn the secrets of an ocean somewhere on an alien planet. There are no great views like in Subnautica, there is no fighting or violence. But there is an extraordinary atmosphere and mood created by an evocative soundtrack and great dialogues, which we can only read.

The creators managed to convey the bond between the two characters almost as in Firewatch, although they did not have as extensive capabilities at their disposal. Due to its minimalist setting, In Other Waters resembles more a virtual book than a game, though there are also some repetitive mechanics. The whole thing, however, is bound to engage and charm players. It's like old text games where our imagination played the key role. In Other Waters is a game that one is "experiencing" rather than "playing".

  1. More about In Other Waters

  1. you like unique adventure games;
  2. you're interested in science, especially biology, and environmental issues.
