It's no news that artistic success doesn't have to go hand in hand with commercial one. However, sometimes it's hard to believe that the titles which are successful and popular to this day were complete commercial flops in their first years.

Although not everyone may like the plot of the second The Evil Within, which draws from the classics of the genre, the amazing atmosphere of the game won fans all over the world. It was great to watch both the real dimension and the nightmare one, in which the most sophisticated monsters awaited the hero known from the original. The combat, however, was pure pleasure, even if the game itself might have seemed a little too long.
PC Gamer nominated Evil Within 2 for the Best Game of 2017 award. IGN, in turn, nominated it as the best action-adventure game of that year. At the beginning, the production sold well – achieving over 40,000 copies in the first week. Ultimately, however, it didn't live up to the financial hopes placed on it. This doesn't mean that it was an economic failure – out of all the games from the list, it was it (in relation to the publisher's costs) that turned out to be the most profitable. Simply, the expectations from a series that was already pretty popular were greater.
Tango Gameworks has been working on the third part of the trilogy. However, since there were many new ideas for mechanics and plot already during pre-production, and the name The Evil Within didn't guarantee a stunning success, the adventures of detective Sebastian Castellanos were not continued. Instead, the studio created Ghostwire: Tokyo. But it also didn't pay off, so it's quite possible that one day we will get the coveted part three.
