Hideo Kojima has a particular affinity for mother figures – this will be Margaret Qualley's second appearance as such a character in his games, after Big Mama in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Actually the third one, if we also count in The Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as she was referred to as "the mother of special forces."

Qualley is a twenty-five-year-old American actress whose main accomplishment has been, without doubt, participation in a high-profile HBO series, The Leftovers. There, she enacted Jill Harvey, a teenage girl with a complex relationship with her father. It was her second acting gig in life (the first one was a performance in the Palo Alto drama), so you could say she's had a quick trip to the top. She also participated in a few Netflix productions – an adaptation of the manga Death Note and the science fiction release IO. Qualley also starred Quentin Tarantino's latest film, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.

As you might guess, Death Stranding will be her first appearance in a video game. Her character seems very intriguing – she's a young mom, who's toddler, for some reason, is "on the other side," in a dark, alternative reality, full of dangerous creatures (the upside-down?). She and her child are connected by an invisible umbilical cord and cannot leave the Bridges facility.
