Mads Mikkelsen is a Danish actor born in 1965, who, thanks to his distinct, cold, Scandinavian countenance, has been conquering international cinemas, most often enacting villains. In Death Stranding, he will also opposite the protagonist as the mysterious soldier, Cliff.

Mikkelsen began his acting career in 1996, playing the role of a drug dealer Nicholas Winding Refn in a very well-received Danish film Pusher. After such a solid debut, the actor strengthened his position in Denmark in the following years with roles in movies such as Rejseholdet and The Hunt. Recognition outside his home country came to him in 2004 thanks to the role of Tristan in Antoine Fuqua's King Arthur . Despite negative reviews, the film proved a great financial success and attracted many viewers, at the same time granting Mikkelsen undoubted recognition.

True international fame came to Mikkelsen two years later, when he played James Bond's arch-enemy, Le Chiffre, in Casino Royale – the 21st film about Agent 007. The memorable role opened the gates of Hollywood – his subsequent roles included films like The Three Musketeers, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Clash of the Titans or Doctor Strange.

In 2013, the Danish actor decided to play the main role in the series Hannibal, hence hitting the bull's eye – the production was a huge success – and one of its most famous elements was the incredible creation of an outstanding cannibal, performed by none other than Mads Mikkelsen.

The actor's relationship with the world of computer games has thus far been very limited – in 2008 he voiced Le Chiffre in the video game adaptation of the 22nd James Bond film, 007: Quantum of Solace. In Death Stranding, Mads Mikkelsen will give his voice and apparitation to Cliff, the protagonist's mysterious adversary. Cliff commands a squad of frightening soldiers and seems to have mysterious, paranormal abilities.
