Witchfire – Painkiller 2?

Why: CausePainkillerwas amazing!!!

  1. Release date: 2020
  2. Genre: shooter
  3. Platforms: TBA, probably PC, PS4 and XONE

After the narrative-driven The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Adrian Chmielarz is returning to the roots. The second project of The Astronauts raises unambiguous associations with one of the most successful Polish games before the WitcherPainkiller. The devs openly admit being inspired by games by From Software, Dark Souls and Sekiro, in designing the world and the monsters.

While we don't know much about the game so far, what we've seen gives a picture of a very dynamic shooter set in dark fantasy. The realm will be full of dark greens and gloomy buildings, captured by all kinds of demons and monsters that we will have to face, using firearms and several paranormal abilities.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter was one of the first independent games to use photogrammetry, therefore delivering extremely realistic, lifelike locations. Witchfire also uses this technology, which already makes it look like a full-fledged, high-budget game, rather than a project of a mid-sized studio. Is this really the Painkiller of our times? Fingers crossed!

In games, he primarily looks for stories, emotions, and immersion that no other medium can provide - hence, among his favorite titles, are games focusing on narration. Believes that NieR: Automata is the best game ever made.
