The second production on the lowest step of the podium is... The Battle for Middle-earth II. In the article I mentioned at the beginning of this article, I wrote about everything that I remember about this game. Therefore, here I will only add that I consider BFME 2 – especially with The Rise of the Witch-king expansion – to be the best game set in the Lord of the Rings universe.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE BATTLE FOR MIDDLE-EARTH II – THE MOST IMPORTANT MODS

Currently, the BFME community focuses mainly on mods for the second part and The Rise of the Witch-King expansion pack. The most important of these modifications are:

  1. T3A: Online – an unofficial launcher that will install the most important fan fixes (including those restoring multiplayer and providing support for widescreen modes) in the game and expansion.
  2. Age of the Ring – currently the most popular mod with new content. Adds elements from The Hobbit and all film adaptations to the game. Previously unavailable heroes and additional units appeared, existing factions were reworked and new ones were introduced. In addition, the mechanics have been expanded with more technologies, skills and options, and the graphics have been significantly improved.
  3. Edain – a mod that breaks all factions into several sub-factions and introduces a host of new units to each of them. It also thoroughly rebuilds almost every aspect of the game so that it is more faithful to the lore's canon.
