After a not entirely successful experiment with Vampyr, DONTNOD returns to the genre in which it has some successful experience – psychological thrillers in form of paranormal episodic adventure games. That's what Twin Mirror is all about, of course, with a few unique game mechanics and plot twists.
As you could expect, it won't be easy. Even David Lynch would be proud of such a story. We play as Samuel, who has just experienced a heartbreak and returns to his hometown (Basswood) to attend a funeral of his close friend. The funeral reception ends worse than in The Hangover movies, because the protagonist wakes up in a bathroom with a bloody shirt and doesn't remember too much about what have actually happened during the last evening. Strangely enough, he wakes up with a doppelganger, that is, a mind projection walking around the room. Samuel will try to solve this mysterious puzzle, but as it turns out it's just a part of a much greater intrigue.
The graphics may not impress with the amount of detail, but it makes up for it with ingenious visualizations, especially in the dreams and 'inside the mind' of the main character. Subsequent events take place both in reality and in the Palace of Mind. So, are you ready to solve another mystery designed by the creators of Life Is Strange?
