Farming Simulator 25: Straw
From this page of the Farming Simulator 25 guide, you will learn how to harvest and use the straw that is created after harvesting certain crops.
Last update:
Straw is created as a result of cutting certain types of grains. On this page of the guide we explain how you can collect produce left in the field, how to store it and what to use it for. Thanks to our tips, you will be able to use the straw lying in the fields without any problem.
Where to get straw?
Straw is created as a by-product when harvesting the following crops:
- Wheat;
- Barley;
- Oats.
You will recognize straw by the distinct humps in the harvested field.
When driving the harvester, make sure that the straw cutting option is activated. In the alternative setting of the machine (cut the straw into chaff), the straw will be immediately cut, which will prevent its collection. You can check the mode change button in the upper left corner of the screen (by default it is a comma).
How to collect straw?
The basic tool for collecting straw is a self-loading trailer. After finishing the grain harvest using the harvester, you can drive the trailer over the scattered straw to collect it.
Besides, there are two tools that will make it easier for you to collect straw. Riding the swather will arrange the scattered straw into rows, making it easier to collect. Balers (for both square and round bales) compact the collected straw into convenient bales that can be transported on a dedicated bale trailer.
Where to store straw?
To store straw you must first set up a matching silo. You will find it in the Silos tab. Loose straw collected with a self-loading trailer can be stored in the straw and hay silo, while bales can be stored in the bale and pallet silo.
What are the uses of straw?
You can use straw in several ways:
- As bedding for cows and pigs. You need it to get these animals to start producing manure;
- As a component of total mixed ration for cows;
- For sale. Straw is not worth much, but it is a by-product of harvesting a significant amount of grains, so you will always have plenty of it. You can sell the excess for a small influx of money.
