A tactical real-time strategy, taking place during the civil war in modern Syria. The game skips some of the typical RTS elements, such as resource gathering and base development. Instead, the main emphasis was placed on tactical maneuvers of land and air forces – including building assaults, using smoke grenades, air drops, air strikes, etc. Before each mission, we need to choose adequate units, with only occasional support from allied units during the mission.

In Into the Breach the player controls small squads comprised of mech robots that protect what remains of humanity against the lurking deep underground aliens. The battles in the game take place on relatively small and procedurally-generated 2D battlefields. They are covered with 64 squares, between which both the player and their opponent can move their units.

A space strategy inspired by the TV Show Battlestar Galactica, The Lost Fleet series of novels by John Hemry, and the video game FTL: Faster Than Light. In a distant future, the player assumes the role of a captain of the last remaining ship from a destroyed armada and hunted by a mysterious enemy. XO is played in real time, but the game offers an option of active pause. In battles the ships' movements are limited to two dimensions, but their behavior is simulated by an advanced physics engine.
