To achieve this, the protagonist has to escape prison, and obtain eight pieces of a powerful artifact known as the Staff of Chaos. The game is characterized by high, almost unforgiving, difficulty level. The title is completely non-linear and allows the players to choose their own path. The production also impresses with the size of its world that contains more than 400 towns and villages as well as vast dungeons and labyrinths that hide around 2500 magical items.

The first story-based expansion for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - an action RPG created in cooperation between 38 Studios and Big Huge Games. The DLC introduces new storylines connected to a mysterious island located off the coast of the Gallows End continent. On the island, the player character faces dark magic and new, powerful enemies. Once the player completes the main storyline, they are allowed to explore the new areas freely and complete an entire set of side quests given by NPCs. The expansion remains faithful to the basic mechanics of the core game, though several new features were introduced as well. The Legend of Dead Kel brings mainly a new kind of dungeon, three new Twists of Fate cards, 8 new armors, 8 new shields and 18 powerful, previously unavailable weapons. The biggest feature of the DLC however, is the Gravehal Keep system, which allows the players to construct and expand their own estate.
