Abandoned is a survival horror that focuses on realism both in terms of graphics and mechanics. The game was developed by the Dutch team Blue Box Game Studios, which has in its portfolio such projects as Rewind: Voices of the Past (which went through Steam Greenlight in 2015, after which no one heard of it) and The Haunting: Blood Water Curse (which in turn went into Early Access on Valve's platform, but was later acquired by another studio - Createq Interactive).

Plot

The main character of the Abandoned is Jason Longfield. The man wakes up in a gloomy forest, not remembering how he got there. Soon after, the protagonist discovers that he has been abducted and that his captors had a sinister purpose. In an attempt to escape, Jason must fight a real battle for survival.

Mechanics

In Abandoned the action was shown from first person perspective (FPP). Game gives us a vast open world, which we can freely explore. During exploration we can come across dangers, with which the hero copes by using a gun or... by running away. Due to the fact that we're not dealing with a dynamic shooter, we have to take our steps carefully and often act in hiding. Each use of the weapon, on the other hand, should be properly planned; shooting while running or right afterwards is out of the question, as Jason's heart rate and difficulty in catching his breath drastically decrease his accuracy.

Technical aspects

Abandoned features extremely realistic graphics. This applies, above all, to the forest and the dried-up trees growing over it. The game was prepared to operate in 4K resolution and at 60 frames per second. In addition, the game takes advantage of the unique capabilities of the PlayStation 5, making use of haptic vibrations and adaptive triggers, as well as surround sound.
