Trackmania Nations Remake is a new version of the popular Trackmania spin-off series, originally released in 2006. Nadeo studio and Ubisoft are again responsible for the production of the game. The game was constructed with multiplayer mode and e-sport in mind. At the same time, the developers did not forget about the support for one of the most important functionalities, i.e. the complex track editor.

Mechanics

In Trackmania Nations Remake, the player sits behind the wheel of many racing cars, competing with other players on crazy tracks. The available tracks abound in jumps, twisters and other blood-chilling obstacles. The driving model is extremely arcade, allowing for crazy tricks and risky jumps performed at absurdly high speeds. The game is devoid of any destruction model. Crashes, however, are associated with the loss of precious seconds and the leading position in the race.

DualShockers: 8.5 / 10 by Allisa James

Trackmania has finally launched for PC and despite being the latest entry in a rather niche franchise it still manages to deliver a robust experience.

GamingTrend: 70 / 100 by Codi Spence

Trackmania is a nice entry into the racing genre that provides a free version, along with paid versions that offer more content. The simple, fast-paced gameplay and official tracks are good, but it's best in short bursts. Official content doesn't take long to complete, so player creations are going to be important in keeping this game alive.

GameWatcher: 6.5 / 10 by Gavin Herman

Trackmania has the time trial gameplay you expect from the series with a neat map editor, but its subscription service feels like a misstep. Rather than a social racing game, it’s a racing game with a social service built onto it.

The main pros of the game

  • Gameplay Mechanics: Users praise the driving mechanics, describing them as fun, easy to learn, and hard to master. The game offers a competitive racing experience that is engaging and addictive.
  • Community and Content: The community is highlighted as welcoming and supportive, with a vast number of user-generated maps (over 250,000) that enhance replayability.
  • Visuals and Optimization: The game is noted for its good graphics and smooth performance, even on lower-end hardware.
  • Frequent Updates: Players appreciate the regular updates that introduce new content and improvements.
  • Variety of Tracks: The game features a wide range of tracks, including weekly shorts and community-created content, providing diverse experiences.

The main cons of the game

  • Subscription Model: A significant number of reviews express frustration with the game's monetization strategy, which requires a yearly subscription to access most of the content. Many users feel that the game is misleadingly marketed as "free to play."
  • Limited Free Content: The free version offers only a small portion of the game (around 10 tracks), leading to feelings of disappointment and frustration among players who want more access without paying.
  • Ubisoft Connect Issues: Many users report problems with the Ubisoft Connect launcher, including bugs and poor user experience.
  • In-Game Ads: Some reviews mention intrusive advertisements within the game, detracting from the overall experience.
  • Lack of Basic Features: Users note the absence of expected features such as Steam achievements and a robust tutorial, which could help new players understand the game better.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • One-Time Purchase Option: Many players express a desire for a one-time purchase option instead of a subscription model, feeling that it would be more fair and straightforward.
  • Expanded Multiplayer Options: Users criticize the limitation of party sizes to only three players, especially given the game's capacity for larger lobbies.
  • Comprehensive Tutorial: There is a call for a better tutorial that explains game mechanics and features more thoroughly.
  • Access to Customization and Clubs: Players want more access to customization options and the ability to join or create clubs without needing a subscription.
  • Improved UI and Controls: Suggestions for a more intuitive user interface and better control explanations in the map editor have been mentioned.

Summary

  • In summary, while Trackmania boasts strong gameplay and a vibrant community, its monetization strategy and limited free content significantly detract from the overall experience for many players.
