2025 might just be the best year for Cthulhu and Lovecraft-inspired games, from the horrors of The Sinking City 2 to indie gems like Deck of Haunts
It's always great to see more Lovecraftian games on the horizon, so here’s my personal list of the best upcoming 2025 titles – officially approved by Cthulhu himself!

Lovecraftian games have been blowing up over the past few years. Dredge already has three DLCs, Darkest Dungeon did so well we got a sequel, and Still Wakes the Deep is sitting at almost 90% positive reviews on Steam. And the list keeps growing – smaller titles like Worshippers of Cthulhu and Do No Harm have also been getting plenty of love from players. This trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon, so we can expect even more in this year.
With that in mind, here are my top five upcoming 2025 Cthulhu-inspired games that I can’t wait to play!
- The Sinking City 2
- The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu
- RailGods of Hysterra
- Deck of Haunts
- The Horror at Highrook
The Sinking City 2
The Sinking City didn’t get the best reviews from critics, but players seemed to enjoy it. Fast forward five years, and The Sinking City 2 was officially announced during the 2024 Xbox Partner Preview – now we’ve got a new teaser trailer from Frogwares to check out.
This time around, the gameplay is moving away from detective work and RPG elements, shifting fully into survival horror. We can expect more combat, resource management, and a heavier horror atmosphere. It’s shaping to be a more intense and polished experience. There’s no release date yet, but it’s still set for 2025 on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu
This game was just announced recently. Developed by ACE Team, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a first-person co-op horror game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s novella The Mound.
With focus on teamwork and survival, we’ll explore mysterious ruins, uncover forbidden knowledge, and face terrifying entities. This chilling mix of Lovecraftian dread and intense combat is coming on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
RailGods of Hysterra
Another upcoming cooperative game is RailGods of Hysterra by Troglobytes Games, but this time it’s more like a survival action kind of thing. It throws us into a post-apocalyptic world ruled by the Great Old Ones, where we, the Dreamers, must take control of a sentient locomotive – a bizarre fusion of steam engine and eldritch horror known as the RailGod.
The gameplay is all about scavenging, combat, and keeping our RailGod in top shape. We’ll need to gather resources, craft weapons, and expand our mobile base. Oh, and the RailGod survives by consuming human flesh, which adds a seriously dark twist to the whole experience. We can play solo or team up with up to four others. RailGods of Hysterra has a demo available on Steam and is planned for a 2025 launch on PC and PlayStation 5.
I don’t know about you, but I love seeing indie developers experiment and innovate like this.
Deck of Haunts
Deck of Haunts is an upcoming roguelike deck-building game from Mantis Games, but this time, we’re playing on the evil side – as a malevolent haunted house. The game takes place in a forsaken 1920s art deco mansion, now filled with bitterness and malice after years of abandonment.
By day, we’ll strategically design our manor, setting deadly traps to protect the Heart room – the core of our supernatural power. By night, we’ll use a deck of terrifying cards to unleash horrors that slowly drive unsuspecting explorers insane… or simply kill them. Harvesting the essence of doomed souls will let us expand our eerie home and lure in even more unfortunate guests.
A demo is already available on Steam, so anyone can start designing their dream house. The full release is planned for 2025 on PC, with console versions coming later.
The Horror at Highrook
The Horror at Highrook by Nullpointer Games gives off a similar vibe to Deck of Haunts, but here, we’re the investigators exploring a haunted mansion. It’s another deck-building game, and honestly, the board game feel is hitting just right – I’m all for it.
The goal is to figure out what happened to the missing Ackeron family. Along the way, we’ll collect and craft cards that summon dark entities, provide powerful protections, and unlock unique abilities, all to help us uncover the truth.
There's a demo on Steam, and the release date is still unknown, but I'm really hoping it drops this year!
