Apple Hires Specialists to Work on 6G

Apple is looking for specialists to do research work on the next-gen wireless network standard 6G. We will most likely use the technology around 2030.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Apple is looking for people to work on its 6G network;
  2. The standard is expected to be 100 times faster than 5G and will be available around 2030.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is hiring engineers to research a new wireless standard - called 6G - that's expected to be up to 100 times faster than 5G. It's worth noting that the technology is unlikely to see the light of day until around 2030.

“You will have the unique and rewarding opportunity to craft next generation wireless technology that will have deep impact on future Apple products. In this role you will be at the center of a cutting-edge research group responsible for creating next generation disruptive radio access technologies over the next decade,” reads the job offer.

What ideas might Apple have for 6G? It is worth remembering that in 2019 there were reports that the corporation plans to launch its own satellite network, which could send data directly to customers' mobile devices. It can not be ruled out that this is part of a larger plan for the future, associated precisely with the next-gen standard.

Apple's current focus is on 5G, and it is certainly successful in this area - in October 2020, the iPhone 12 was the most popular 5G smartphone in the world. Apple is also working on its own modem supporting this type of network, so that the company will not be dependent on cooperation with Qualcomm.
